LOCKS

As you progress along the river systems you will encounter many locks. If you are going upstream the lock will fill with water to lift your boat to the next level. And if you are travelling downstream the water in the lock will be released and you will ride down to the next level of the river.

In order to secure the boat in the lock, you need to use a bollard. The captain brings the centre of the boat close to the are while the crew throws a line around the bollard. It is important to monitor the line in order to keep the boat inlace near the bollard.

We are waiting for the lock to fill as we wanted to go upstream with a number of power boats. To accommodate all of us some of the boats had to be rafted off of other boats. Sea Mist is rafted off of Adamant 1. You and your crew will need to develop a strategy for being successful in the locks. Our boat was better managed by a port tie since the captain could bring the boat closer to the wall this way so that the crew was able to grab the lines or put a line around the bollard effectively.
